Ampelmann Company is a state-of-the-art offshore business that concentrates on the sale, lease and development of offshore access solutions. It was established as a by-product of the Delft University of Technology in 2007. The primary technology of the company is called the Ampelmann system, which is a motion compensation solution that enables safe, fast and easy admission from a moving ship to offshore structure, even during high waves. The Ampelmann system technology was developed for more than 5 years, with participation and sponsoring of a variety of offshore contributors like SMIT, Boskalis and Shell. The company already has 7 Ampelmann operated systems worldwide.

These days, the company is generating two innovative systems, which will be on hand prior 2014. The E-type, one of the Ampelmann systems, will be provided in the marketplace at the start of the new year. This specific system is a huge Ampelmann and can compensate as much as 4 meters of Hs.

Ampelmann is a self-stabilizing ship-based walk to work offshore solution that actively compensates every motion of vessels in order to make transfer of offshore crew safe and secure, fast and easy. Ampelmann’s base is mounted on the barge or vessel’s deck and ensures the compensation of the motion, making sure that the top part of the Ampelmann stationary is stationary. The gangway, mounted on top of the Ampelmann, can simply be deployed onto the motionless offshore structure allowing secured transfer of offshore personnel. Through the use of an Ampelmann system, it decreases the need for helicopters, semi-subs and jack-ups, which allows for a cost-effective and safe alternative for transferring of offshore personnel.

The Ampelmann Offshore Access Gangway technology landed in Qatar and transfers of offshore crew were done on a variety of Qatargas platforms. The system carried out in conditions with substantial 2.5-meter wave height. Mounted on DP ship Smit Nicobar, 5 separate platforms were called on, from various sides, without prior variation of the landing spots. This innovative gangway system will substantially expand the weather casement for offshore crew transfers, which make its campaign and operational planning more reliable.

Benefits of Using Offshore Access System

  • 24 hour operation
  • Vessel installation can only be carried out within 8 hours
  • Modifications to the platform are NOT needed
  • Improves the accessibility of offshore structures to almost 90 percent of the time
  • Can compensate motions of the vessel to almost 2.5 meters
  • A cost-effective, time efficient, reliable and safe offshore access platform
Hence, for people who are looking for the best offshore access platforms, Ampelmann Company is the best business to provide your offshore needs. The company provides high-quality offshore access platforms since it is committed to the sale, lease, development and construction of offshore access systems and platforms. The primary technological system of the company is a motion compensation solution that enables safe, easy and quick access such as offshore structures and vessel transfers. In addition, it provides the best offshore operational solutions throughout the whole world. With the help of the company, you will be able to have high-quality offshore systems and platforms.

Let’s face it. In this day and age energy is going to have to be harvested in more treacherous and challenging conditions. The days of oil and gas extraction from the safety of land are beginning to fall behind us yet the demand for those resources are continuing to climb. Since the demand for energy continues to climb, companies have begun to look to the open sea to harvest these resources.             This could include energy solutions such as drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Many nations have been building wind farms offshore also. Of course these structures require people to operate and maintain them, and moving people off and on these platforms has become a challenge for companies. They need to consider how they are going to get people from a ship to an offshore oilrig or windmill without colliding the ship against the structure or damaging the structure. Even the slightest unexpected movement could result in death of personal or damage to expensive equipment.

That is why the Ampelmann has been developed to help companies meet these challenges in a cost effective fashion. Creating a platform that moves people from the ship to the rig isn’t simple. On land, the base of a bridge does not shift and that allows people to build a solid structure. That just simply isn’t the same on the water. The water can be calm some days or it can be extremely rough on other days. A sudden jerk or pull on the platform can be deadly.

What the Ampelmann system does is it provides ships with an extendable platform to connect the ship to the offshore structure. First of all, the structure itself can be extended or retracted based on the distance between the ship and the offshore structure. It doesn’t require a modification of the structure either. The Ampelmann system will rest on the structure itself so that in the event that something goes wrong, the ship isn’t tied to the offshore structure. The platform is encased with side rails to keep people from falling over the edge and it’s a rough surface to prevent slipping and falling.

On the shipside, the Ampelmann system rests on a series of hydraulic stabilizers. These stabilizers take into account ship movement and react accordingly to keep the platform level. That does two things. One thing it does it allows the platform to stay in a constant position regardless of what is happening underneath. That means a ship can load or unload people in either calm or severe weather. It also prevents the platform from slipping off of the offshore rig unexpectedly. The other thing this does is it creates a safe surface for people to walk on (Walk to Work Offshore with Ampelmann).

That’s why Ampelmann boasts that they create a system that feels just like crossing the street. The unit is easy to install on the ship. In fact it can be done in less than a day. After that, the ship is fully equipped to move people safely on or off of an offshore platform.
